Job Description Role Mandate:

The Manager, Quality Assurance is accountable for managing the day to day operations of the Quality Assurance organization at the Branch level. The Manager, Quality Assurance works with various areas (Produce Business Unit, Supply Chain, Distribution and Operations) to aid in the integration and adherence of policies and processes with respect to Quality thereby ensuring compliance to all statutory and company requirements

Accountabilities:
• Provide leadership to the Quality Assurance department with respect to scheduling, employee relations, performance management, succession planning and training and development.
• Ensure adherence to sampling and testing programs and measurement of key metrics to meet Quality specifications (size, weight, brix, colour etc)
• Ensure adherence and compliance with established Quality Assurance programs and policies thereby ensuring that all produce meets the highest standards of quality and food safety
• Liaises with Category Management Teams/Quality Assurance Team on acceptability of produce
• Communicate quality related concerns to relevant departments – Category, Supply Chain, Operations
• Manage DC quality audits and retail audits.
• Manage Banana ripening process (gassing and inventory balances)
• Develop, enhance and maintain product and process standard operating procedures
• Ensure necessary testing supplies/equipment/methodologies are in place.
• Maintain a professional working relationship with the local CFIA staff, provide leadership and act as a key contact for all CFIA product Inspections/detentions and recovery programs. Liaise with category management teams to ensure compliance with CFIA regulations
• Manage and maintain effective Quality Assurance communication with all functions within the Business unit, Loblaw Brands, Supply Chain and Distribution and with external clients such as vendors, CFIA, retail operations and stores.
• Manage within annual operating budgets.
• Conduct any general duties, specific projects and responsibilities as assigned or required in a timely and professional manner.
Job Qualifications Role Requirements:
• Post secondary education
• 4-6 years experience in a Quality Assurance/Operations management function preferably within the produce industry(Procurement, Retail, or Distribution)
• Strong knowledge of produce and produce industry including knowledge of CFIA/USDA standards for fresh fruits and vegetables
• Proven ability to lead and motivate teams
• Excellent communication skills
• Excellent problem solving, time management, and organizational skills
• Strong analytical and process improvement skills
• Knowledge of Food Safety and Quality Management Systems is a definite asset
• Knowledge of statistical process control is a definite asset
