The BC-Yukon Communications Manager is a dynamic communications professional. He/she will work closely with the Western Canada Communications team to reach organizational strategic goals and objectives through developing and implementing BC-Yukon communications plans to increase the profile of the Red Cross; manage media in a way that encourages accurate, balanced coverage; cultivate informed and supportive members of the Red Cross family; and, support BC-Yukon personnel with communications activities.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Manages all aspects of the BC-Yukon Communications department.
· Identifies and implements strategies to increase the profile of all Red Cross programs and services.
· Manages issues in a way that encourages accurate and balanced media coverage of Red Cross.
· Identifies, prepares and supports internal communications needs. Cultivates relationships by informing and supporting members of the Red Cross family, including volunteers, staff and financial donors.
· Ensures 24/7 capacity to respond to disaster communications needs through a combination of staff and volunteer trained personnel and systems
QUALIFICATIONS: The minimum qualifications for this position include a degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or equivalent combination of training and experience, and four to six (4-6) years of communications and/or media experience; and
· Knowledge and experience in applying the principles of communications and marketing
· Excellent written and oral communication skills in English; Fluency in another language is a definite asset
· Solid team-building and leadership skills along with a keen sense of diplomacy and judgment
· Excellent computer skills
· Experience in working with a diverse population and media, and an understanding of cultural issues
· Volunteer management experience is a definite asset
· This position is subject to a successful criminal record check
