Government of Canada Employment Program Supports Local Person With Disabilities

Government of Canada Helps Newcomers Integrate Into the Labour Market

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - January 11, 2010) - Newcomers to Canada will get the help they need to better integrate into the workforce through a new project funded by the Government of Canada. The Honourable Peter Kent, Minister of State of Foreign Affairs (Americas) and Member of Parliament for Thornhill, made the announcement today on behalf of the Honourable Diane Finley, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development.

Foreign credentials framework

The lack of recognition of foreign credentials, specifically in licensed professions, has been a crisis with no easy solutions. For years, the federal government has pointed out such matters are primarily a provincial jurisdiction. But then provinces and regulatory boards have been slow in addressing the integration of immigrants. There has been a lack of singular leadership to drive this labour dilemma forward. A new agreement aims to correct this.
